SHE’S a megastar in China and she’s in Sydney to spruik the wonders of our city to hundreds of millions of people back home.
Movie legend Liu Xiaoqing is on a 20-day shoot making a series about the harbour city that will be watched by an estimated 400 million people on Dragon TV, China’s second biggest network.
The documentary TV series is set to add further fuel to Sydney’s growing popularity with the Chinese property market.
And Ms Liu herself could well be among the next wave of buyers. She told The Sunday Telegraph she was “considering an investment”, and was particularly fond of Double Bay.
“Next time I am here maybe I will have my own house,” the actress, who has won three Hundred Flowers Awards for best actress, China’s equivalent of the Golden Globes, and is currently shooting a World War II movie called The Bombing” being produced by Mel Gibson and co-starring Bruce Willis, said.
“When I first came here 20 years ago there were not so many people on the streets. Now it's a megacity,” said Ms Liu, once on the Forbes top 50 rich list in China.
“Sydney has attracted many Chinese people here, including top professional people, and a lot of money comes to Australia from China.
“I love Sydney so much I want to tell all of China about it.”
One of her series producers said Ms Liu was “legendary” in China, adding: “No-one can compare with her.”
