Chinese rich-lister signs off on Vaucluse mansion for $30m plus

Vaucluse has notched up another trophy sale for 2015 of $30+ million bought by billionaire supermarket chain owners from China.

Settlement records reveal the designer residence was bought by Huang Qiaorong, who with her husband, Zhang Xuansong, is co-owner and director of one Chinese giant supermarket chain.

The home’s current tenant is China’s billionaire internet entrepreneur Mr. Liu who was expected to be the likely eventual buyer of the property by industry insiders.

In an interesting twist, Mr Liu is a close business associate of the buyer. Mr Liu’s e-commerce site invested 4.3 billion yuan for a 10 per cent stake in Yonghui last August.

Mr Liu, who is ranked by Forbes as China’s ninth-richest person, is expected to continue to call the designer digs home with his wife, Zhang Zetian, an internet sensation in China known as “Sister Milk Tea”.

The three-storey residence on a north-facing block comes with separate guest quarters, garaging for nine cars, a tennis court, swimming pool, gardens designed by William Dangar and a private jetty and slipway.

The new owner of the property, Ms Huang, is a permanent resident, based in Canberra, and does not require any approval to buy property in Australia. Her husband debuted on the Forbes list of China’s billionaires last year with an estimated net worth of $1.35 billion.

The all-time highest Australian sale price of $70 million was set in August, also in Vaucluse, when casino mogul James Packer and his former wife, Erica, sold to billionaire Chau Chak Wing.
